  • On The Way To The Zoo

Ok so yesterday in the Creative Writing class one of the exercises we did was we first wrote down a sentence of exposition, and then passed the paper/notebook to our left and the next person wrote a sentence of narrative, then to the left again for a sentence of dialogue, then left again for a sentence of description, then left again for a sentence of indirect dialogue(I think?), then left one more time for a sentence of interior dialogue.

So basically, only the first sentence of this short story was mine. The fifth sentence belongs to Erin, and a sense of humor like that is a very attractive quality. Keep in mind, as we got farther along in the process, we fed off of each other’s smirks and got weirder and weirder. Twas a fun day yesterday. Oh yeah, and an assignment for next Tuesday is to rewrite the first few paragraphs of any fairy tale in a more modern form. It’ll be short enough, like this one today, that I’ll post it up.

It had been years since we had been to the zoo.

I drove the car with Katie and the kids in the back, and it felt like a sitcom family.

“Are we there yet?” Jacob asked in that whiny ‘kid on a road trip’ voice.

‘There’ was a hot and arid place filled with sand and a giant reptilian monster was standing in the middle of the lane that led to the zoo.

Katie screamed and I told her it would be ok because I packed superman in the trunk and he would save the day.

I was thinking that if that monster was real he’d be fighting Mothra now, “Mmm, Mothra!” I thought.

  • hahaha… i’ve had to do that in a class before… the outcomes are amazing. (that’s where the fluffy the pink elephant story originated from, and now that i’m going back to ohio, i will try and locate it but no promises.)

and line 5 sounds like something i would say. just from that sentence she sounds like someone fun to hang with. i think you should hook up with her and the two of you should move down to tenn and you would completely fit in with our group down here!

i’ll try and call u when i’m in ohio sometime, but we are also going to be doing some travelling to michigan during those two weeks, and i’m not sure what days, as well as a 2-3 stop in toledo for something my gpa has to do for work.

  • it’s hilarious to read your girl posts.

  • Well my class today was cancelled, so there won’t be any hooking up this afternoon. Move to Tenn huh? Maybe, you get a lot of tornados down there though. Though I guess if Erin gets caught in a twister I could say that I found a way to sweep her off her feet! .

Btw, Portland is out. I don’t know if I mentioned that yet. Things are looking very good at the library(a promotion is imminent) so yeah, I think I’ll stick around here for awhile.

  • you could say that.

good luck with that promotion. you know.. they do have libraries in tenn.. just a thought.. LoL… there aren’t that many tornados…

  • They do!?!?! There aren’t!??!?!! I’ll just grab my walking stick and begin my trek right this minute! See ya in a year!

  • And hey, what’s so funny about my girl posts?

  • you could take a bus or a train. just a thought…  :)

  • hm, it’s not as funny this time around. it’s just funny to read anyone obsess over a love interest.

  • Well don’t worry, I’ve detected more interest from a rubber chicken.
