Advent
At the crossroads you stand, eyes wide awake
A jumbled mind decides the path to take
Reach to your left, and find distance eternal
Reach to your right, and find distance eternalYour past lies behind, here the eastern star shines down
Music of the night emanates from the far off town
Your future lies in front of you, a path of shadows awaits
To be greeted by Sin and Death, or by John at the pearly gatesTo your southeast sings the entire congregation
To your northwest sings the Dionysian nation
To your southwest sings the host of angels
To your northeast sings the fall archangelsTo the words of the mute, you have always listened
At the direction of the blind, you have always hastened
To the ears of the deaf, your voice has always beckoned
To the path of the Christian, you have always been devoutThe path ahead draws the eye, as a mouse does the hawk
Over your dear soul, the future as a hunter does stalk
Fear not the predator my friend, let go and become the prey
It is time to accept your path, no longer time to prayFear not this moonless night, for the sun will rise tomorrow
After this night’s vigil is over, there will be no more sorrow
Your arms are spread wide as your feet begin to move
The zodiac high above begins to shine as the clouds now do removeDawn arrives at last, the rays of light hit your face
The choir, though, has stopped – joy replaced with empty space
Where boys fear to go, the feet of a man begin to tread
The faces behind once filled by friends now are filled with anger – and dread. You have taken the step they fear to take
It is you who has burned your soul at the stake
Where once was love, now will be condemnation
Where once was laughter, now will be fingers declaring damnationWeak they will say of you, fallen from the one true path
Selfish they will say of you, with zealous eyes filled with wrath
With pity in those eyes they will find you, and provide you with shame aplenty
With sadness they will talk of you, a soul lost to the most evil entityFree your eyes will say, when look they into a mirror
No longer oppressed your soul will inform you, nothing more to fear
With unbridled joy life will begin to find you, your spirit will sing
Finally accepted the real life have you, no more fear of too soon dyingInstead of judging, you will begin understanding
Instead of condemnin, you will begin accepting
Instead of fearing your mind, your thoughts will roam free
Instead of seven ways to perish, you will have seven ways to flourishInstead of war with the world, your eyes will begin to see love
Instead of the righteous indignation, you will be a bringer of joy
Instead of introducing strife, you will begin to learn to be at peace
Instead of causing the helpless to fear, you will not fear to bring hope
Instead of the word of the apostles, you will finally be adhering to the word of The Christ.

great poem. It reflects what I’m trying to do too, except I haven’t so visibly walked away from the church path that people condemn me… yet, maybe. It’s more hidden for me, in my thoughts and actions (I’m trying to figure out and live that last line of your poem, and some things I’m coming to are different from what the majority of Christians believe and do).
I think there is a time for righteous anger, but as Jesus did it, it’s probably supposed to be against the Church, like against Pharisees and temple moneychangers. Then there’s also a time for not being at peace with everyone–”I did not come to bring peace but a sword…” (Matthew 10:34-39). But that’s just a put God first kind of passage.
You may like this article written by one of my profs and the comments especially. Same article on both these links, different comments. I commented on the xanga one, and some of that reflects how I feel about what your poem says.

I like this article. It shows how some Christians are “understanding, accepting, roam free, love, bring joy and hope, and adhere to the word of The Christ.”

Patronizing. yes, that’s it. Here’s how I explained it earlier. “I see Christians who treat people outside the circle like lepers that need to be saved by their witness. It’s like I-It that lacks real understanding and speaks to the other without really reaching the other and meeting them where they are. (I see it partly because I have been like this myself.)”
If you haven’t read Martin Buber’s “I and Thou” (awesome book), I-It is the kind of relationship (as opposed to I-Thou) where a person sees the other as above him, below him, or relates to the person out of self-love, etc. In this case it would be treating people as below oneself.
And as for the corrupt vs. pure thing, really, all churches could be called corrupt since the people in them are human. And I don’t think the church was ever completely pure, like the new testament talks about “false teachers” and “wolves among sheep” and such, so it can’t have been pure, then corrupted. I think the best approach here is to love (well, isn’t that the answer to a lot of things?) the churches and not label them as “corrupt” and make another us vs. them separation. But at the same time, love will want to help churches purify themselves, like those letters to the churches at the beginning of Revelation say, this is good about you (specific churches), but I have this against you, that… (things they need to change). All of this HAS to be done in love, otherwise it can easily separate.
So anyway, valid concerns. I agree.
Oh, and if we have more of these back and forth conversations on here, it may be better to keep all the comments on the same post, so if anyone else wants to read for some reason, they won’t get confused or miss parts. So, I’m saying your old way of commenting seems better to me now lol.
“That girl” is just a friend of mine who happens to live down there. It will be nice to be able to spend time with her and stuff, but that isn’t the reason for the move by any means. But yeah, it’s going to be crazy…
