St. Joseph’s
And I think I’m going to begin searching for a church for the first time in four years. I’m going to start with St. Joseph’s Cathedral in downtown Columbus. Look at that picture of the interior. I’ve always loved the gothic cathedral look and find this picture so freakin cool. In other words, I’m probably going to be catholic. I’ve been thinking about that echo from ‘O Holy Night’ and I think it’s a catholic echo somehow. There is a theory as to why this might be so, but you’ll laugh at me for it. In the scene during Home Alone where Kevin goes into the cathedral, the choir is singing the song ‘O Holy Night’. That movie is tied to my childhood, and so that song is swirling with all this nostalgia based upon that scene and the one or two times I went to my Uncle’s church Immaculate Conception. Somehow all that has bundled into my religious portion of my soul as, “Dan. You’re Catholic.”

that’s very interesting. i’m glad you are looking into going to church again. curious reasons as to why you are thinking catholic church. just choose carefully and wisely if you decide on a home church. i’ve been to lots of catholic churches and while the architecture is indeed lovely with the high ceilings and stained glass windows, sometimes there isn’t a lot of substance in the actual people. look for a place that is warm, inviting and welcome in it’s people, not just it’s looks. and there is a lot of stand-up/sit-down and i can’t say i relate at all with the chanting parts and some of the other traditional things of catholic church, but to each his or her own. i also don’t believe in praying to the saints.. i don’t see why we can’t pray directly to God.. and in all my Bible readings, i’ve never come across anything that would suggest to me that we are to pray to anyone other than God himself.
i’m interested to hear more about ur echo theory.
and i just want to say that ‘immaculate conception’ is such a funny and weird name for a church, LoL.
neat. Home Alone was a prominent movie in my childhood too. The others I can think of were… Mrs. Doubtfire and Forrest Gump, by frequency, and The Lion King, by favorite.
I agree with Nikki. I’m happy you’re looking into going to church again. But I would make the adjustment… find whatever helps you get to where you need to be. I don’t think the Catholics have it all right, but I don’t think anyone does. I have found spiritual help in places some people would think bad of. So try to find where God leads you and seek God and truth.
Anyway, the intonation of “Dan. You’re Catholic” in my head is really funny.
