  • How has Xanga changed or impacted your life?

I just answered this Featured Question; you can answer it too!

Yeah I know that Xanga’s Featured Questions is pretty much offline now…but I figured I’d answer this last question. Who knows….I may browse through some old ones over time.

So my answer: Just like when I went from a small private Christian high school to the largest(screw you University of Texas) and most diverse college in the nation(Ohio State) and had my eyes pulled way open at all the different perspectives that were out there on the world, Xanga has done the same. I joined Xanga in late 2005 and gained a few friends that followed my page until I left(and most of them too) in 2007. There were about four or five total and I was happy with that. I only just rejoined the Xanga community last November and since everyone I knew from before was off of Xanga now, I decided to browse and comment on the main pages and find(and be found by) new Xangans with whom I could share my perspective. @lkjslain was the first one to friend me upon my return. Since then I’ve gained about 85 more friends here on Xanga and thus, have been exposed to 85 different points of view. I think that is the greatest blessing ever. Sure I don’t agree with every perspective on things, but for those of you with whom I’ve disagreed just know that I’ve changed my own point of view a number of times in my life. It’s called gaining perspective! ha.

So my question for you is this: How has Xanga impacted your perspective? Or if you’re not on Xanga, how has blogging itself changed your perspective?

  • Glad to see someone answer this question. I used to answer these questions all the time. :)

I’ve changed my views on things so many times and, what I love about this place is how you can see a bunch of different perspectives and change your views or just get more info from others who, you know, know what they are talking about and what not. It’s always pretty neat when you can be friends with someone who you don’t always agree with. I love how xanga is a great place to express yourself and make quality friendships and what not. Plus, this is just my safe place. I’ve tried blogging other places, it’s just not the same! So, basically, I agree with you.

I went to a small private christian school, too! :) I enjoyed your answer. :)

  • awww, wow, I didn’t realize I was one of the first people in your life on here O_o… TADA! :D

    I’m so glad we’ve met.

  • Well, it changed my life in that a girl I met on Xanga read how things weren’t working out with me & my family living in CA (with my husband’s family) and so we were moving to IN to live with my family & I wasn’t too sure about job prospects out there. She commented that her husband’s company (Alltel wireless) was hiring. Turns out, my husband had cell phone testing experience. He had an assoc. degree in computers & so they hired him….. ONE DAY BEFORE getting to my parents’ house. They hired him via two phone interviews!

The same woman invited me to her church & into her Life Group (Bible study group). We stayed in that group from Dec ’06 until we moved at the end of July ’09! We became members of the church after just a couple of months! We LOVED the people there. (Though we didn’t care for the weather in Massillon, OH. *lol*)

I would say that is a significant affect that Xanga had on my life. My personal Xanga blog (which has been neglected for a few years now but I do still have it) is where this all happened & I’ve been on Xanga with that account, since 2005 I believe.

  • @MyTwoCentss - It won’t let me rec so I’ll make this public. Everyone read the above comment. It is quite awesome.

  • @MyTwoCentss - That really is awesome! :)

  • @Shadowrunner81 - @Megabyyte -  Thank you both, I appreciate it.

It’s cool that you went to a Christian school growing up. Wish I could have. My parents couldn’t afford it though. My dad’s a penny pincher plus even if he wasn’t I’m not sure he could’ve. Perhaps, I will never know though.

So what prompted you to choose a public college? I was the opposite – public schooling and then I chose a Christian college. I couldn’t go more than 1 1/2 years though because of $$. I’m homeschooling my son though with Christian curriculum. And what’s the hate toward TX for? *lol* I’ve only lived here for nearly 3 years but I’m curious.

  • I met my best friend here. And I have learned tons and tons from all the different perspectives I have been able to read.

  • Xanga is a great blogging site. I’ve met so many wonderful people on here. I’m not sure how it has changed my perspective though. I know it is because of Xanga that got back into writing every day.

  • @MyTwoCentss - Christian High School, Public High School….it’s still High School and filled with insecure high schoolers and high school drama. But the main difference was that there were about 300 students total in the school from 7th through 12th grade. That’s about 300 different perspectives. I went to Ohio State because I wanted to get 50,000 different perspectives. And nothing against the state of Texas, but Ohio State and UT regularly vie for the most amount of students in their respective schools. I’m not even sure which one has the most anymore.

  • @Megabyyte - Any idea as to why Xanga stopped doing these?

  • @Crying_In_Color - Stick around long enough, get to enough people and it will.

  • @mtngirlsouth - I figure if I’m going to meet a best friend it’s going to be on here. Glad you met yours.

  • @Shining_Garnet - Again a  comment I wish my site would let me rec. I’m glad you got back into writing and I saw on my feed that your poems are now online? Very cool!

  • @Shadowrunner81 -  I didn’t realize that about the two universities. I went to a public school that was K-12. I had 54 students in my graduating class. *lol* So my school was only a few students per grade bigger than your school.
And even though Cedarville was kind of small compared to other schools, it still seemed huge to me in comparison.

  • hummm I wouldnät go as far as to say Xanga has changed my life… but I think the most fun thing (apart from the fact that this is my first blog) is getting know or talking to people I would otherwise never have met – like people from Indonesia, Singapore and different US states. That has been quite interesting and fun, I think. By the way – in what state do you live?

  • @Zissu25 - Yeah I’m from the U.S. and even I think it’s cool to talk to people from various U.S. states(and Brazil of course). I’m from Ohio. The state motto is ‘The Heart of it All’ because if you look at a U.S. map and think of it as a human chest, Ohio is where the heart would be.

  • @Shadowrunner81 - Yep, they are. The link to the issue of Three Line Poetry that they are in is in my post.

  • Xanga’s changed my life because I’ve been blogging since I was 12. I couldn’t count the number of accounts I’ve made!

I met someone who’s a dear friend to me still, halfway across the globe, who impacted my life in a big way. there when no one else was.

Plus, I like the diversity here behind the computer. I’m an introverted person, and it’s easier for me to connect to people online than in person. In the sense of how did it change my perspective, it makes people seem less scary.

  • @specialxplaces - Yeah I think I remember seeing you comment on one of @james_river ‘s posts about being introverts. I’m an introvert too(to the point where I have anxiety about new people in real life). How long have you been blogging? ::hint:: That’s my not so subtle way of asking how old are you. ::hint::

  • @Shadowrunner81 -  ah Ohio! I actually that the state had that “nickname” :) . I think Ohio has cool flag though haha.
