First read this article:

http://www.nj.com/business/index.ssf/2011/09/smartphones_overtake_feature_p.htmlNow that you’ve been informed about what is going on with the whole cell phone market, what are your opinions on what the elderly and poor are supposed to do when they get in emergencies or, gasp, just want to talk to their kids and grandkids?

In my area they advertise a program like welfare for the elderly and “financially challenged”. Depending on their income they can get the phone for free along with a certain amount of minutes. You can up the minutes you get by paying I believe up to $20 a month max (not a smart phone). That program is cheaper then having a house phone anyway. Their are options.
@Crying_In_Color - Yeah I found out about the Ohio landline thing on the local news and it was just like…..but what about the people who don’t want/can’t use cell phones. At least if there are programs in your state people can at least afford them so that’s good. It just all worries me I guess…..
