  • I’ll Have Another

Today I am writing about the colt named I’ll Have Another that will be racing for the Triple Crown on June 9th. It has been 34 years since Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 1978. Just a week ago the movie about the racehorse Secretariat was on and I watched it with my Mom and little brother, Marcus. Secretariat was the first horse in 28 years to win the Triple Crown. He raced back in the early 70′s. In about a six year span Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Affirmed each won the Triple Crown. Now it is I’ll Have Another who is ready to take his shot.

I should admit that I’m not a very big horse racing fan. It really is a sport enjoyed by those who are wealthy. Now when War Admiral and Seabiscuit faced off back in the 30′s, horse racing was a HUGE sport. Anymore it’s just for those who can afford the horses, those who can afford to place large wagers on the outcomes of the races, and those(like me) who only tune in for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes.

I really would not have written about this subject had it not been for the fact that there is a Triple Crown on the line. I had fun watching the Preakness because my Mother and I were down visiting the grandparents when it was on last weekend. The main point of that visit was to plan a vacation together. But with I’ll Have Another winning the Preakness to go along with his victory earlier in May at the Kentucky Derby, the visit took on a whole new flavor. I don’t think either of my grandparents really cared much about the race, or horse racing in general, but maybe they’ll tune in to the Belmont Stakes.

Now as to I’ll Have Another’s chances. The second place horse in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness was Bodemeister. He is owned by Bob Baffert who, every year, has a horse running in the Derby. But Bodemeister will not race in the Belmont Stakes(last I checked) so the path is clear for I’ll Have Another to win. Here is I’ll Have Another’s pedigree. That’s only if you really care. I don’t know any of those horses so I can’t tell you which horse had stamina or which had endurance or any of that.

I wasn’t even alive the last time there was a Triple Crown winner so it would be quite cool to see one. In other words, I will be rooting for I’ll Have Another to win on June 9th. If he can pull it off the owner, J. Paul Reddam, will be a very rich man. I’ll bet that if he wins the race, he will immediately be put to stud. That’s a life I could enjoy let me tell you! Even if he doesn’t win, Reddam still has a horse that won the first two jewels of the Triple Crown. Exciting!
